Remote IT support
Plenty of problems do not need anyone to drive anywhere. Remote sessions are cheaper, quicker to book, and often solve it the same day.
How it works
You start the session from your end, using a small program you download and run. You can see everything happening on your screen the whole time, and you can disconnect whenever you like. When the job is done, the session ends and nothing is left running on your machine.
Because it is a shared screen and a phone call, you also get to watch what was done and ask why, which people tend to find useful the next time it happens.
Weeknights, not just weekends
Onsite visits are weekends only, but remote work does not have to wait for Saturday. After-hours sessions on weeknight evenings are available when needed, which matters when email has stopped on a Tuesday and Saturday is too far away.
Good candidates for remote work
- Email that has stopped syncing or will not send
- Microsoft 365 account, licence and shared mailbox problems
- Software that will not install, update or open
- A slow machine that still starts
- Suspicious pop-ups and light malware clean ups
- Printer setup where the printer is already on the network
- Setting up a new user, a new laptop that already boots, or a new phone with work email
- Backup checks and cloud storage setup
When you need a visit instead
- The machine will not start at all, or cannot get online
- Anything physical: screens, batteries, drives, keyboards, fans
- Wi-Fi coverage problems, which need someone to walk the building
- Network hardware installs and cutovers
If you are not sure which one you have, call anyway. Sorting that out takes about a minute.
What it costs
Remote support is $99 per hour, billed in 15 minute blocks with a 15 minute minimum.
Remote keeps 15 minute increments on purpose. A cheap 20 minute fix is the whole argument for choosing remote over a visit, so it is priced that way. Onsite rates are on the pricing page.
FAQ
Questions people ask
Is remote support safe?
You start the session, you watch everything that happens on screen, and you can end it at any moment. When it finishes, nothing is left running and nothing can connect back without you starting a new session.
What do I need for a remote session?
A computer that starts and can get online, and a phone so you can talk through what is happening. That is all. You will be walked through the two or three clicks to start the session.
Does remote work on Macs and Windows?
Yes, both. Most phone and tablet problems can be talked through on a call as well, though they cannot be controlled remotely.
